Building work to start on Clubhouse Extensions!!
Yes, we have the go ahead and will be starting immediately. We are likely to have a 2 pronged attack, commencing foundations for the dining extension together with internal structural works in preparation for the dormer extensions - this is quite complicated!
We don't have an estimated completion schedule. We shall be progressing as rapidly as we can, whilst ensuring that it is all done right and as cost effectively as we can. We want to use the right people for everything so at times might be in their hands for availability. We shall also ensure that we keep disruption down to an absolute minimum for all our customers.
Keep popping in to see how we are progressing and keep an eye on this page for updates.
Thank you all for your patience and support.

New Professional Appointed
Firstly, we all wish Darren the very best in his new position as Director of Golf at Carmarthen. As he is not exactly leaving the country we will all still undoubtedly see plenty of him.
We can't of course replace Darren, but we can fill the vacant post with the best person available and so we are delighted to announce that
Mike Davies will be joining us as our new Head Professional and Golf Operations Manager. Mike has 10 years experience, has been head professional at Bowood and Alice Springs, coached men's county in Gwent, Glamorgan and Wiltshire and is NLP certified and a REPS level 3 qualified personal trainer. As such he is able to offer the full package of golf conditioning, swing and mind and will make the best use of the fantastic range of facilities we have here for golf development.
Mike will be starting officially on the 1st April, but he has already been down a few times and started coaching our Junior Team. Please make him feel right at home and introduce yourselves - photo below to help with what he looks like.

Family Schemes
Know of friends or neighbours wanting to take the sport up? Got any other family members interested in starting?
We are piloting family schemes with the aim of encouraging more family units to take up the sport and to create a welcoming family environment. The schemes deliver 6 x 1hour beginner group lessons for family members (maximum 3 groups). There will be a minimal charge for each family.
A Family is defined as any two (or more) family members.
The scheme will take the form below:
- Free taster evening/day/sessions for families wanting to try golf
- Then invited to attend 6 x 1 hour group lessons
- Following the 6 weeks, the family are then offered the chance to continue with a further 6 weeks of tuition with a temporary trial membership
- There is then a choice of family membership packages to encourage participants to become full members
For further details or to register your interest, please contact Leighton Medway via the Club on 01554 810278 or email via contact us. Another Junior fundraising success.

Great day had by all in Pro's Xmas Knock.
70 people played in what was excellent day. The weather was fantastic which made the day much more enjoyable. Black friday and the flu bug did cause a couple of casualties on the day but other than that everything ran smoothly.
The winners of the trophy this year were the popular pairing of Paul Thomas and Mike Grievson with 45 points. Runners up were the father son combo of Kyle and Neale Watherston followed by the highly tipped pairing of Dafydd Latham and Martin Lane.
The ladies competition was played over 9 holes and was won with a very respectable score of 19 points by Jan Leyshon.
Some juniors were in the main competition but there was also a 9 hole competition ran which was fiercely fought by Liam and Arron two of our great prospects, and in the end the victor was Arron with 22 points.
At the end of the presentation the Pro's Xmas draw was done. Three fab prizes were up for grabs and the 3 lucky winners were:
1st Alan Roberts - Electric trolley
2nd Neil Blower - Benross W/proof suit
3rd Dai Shed - Titleist golf bag.
Overall a highly successful day, congratulations to all the winners on the day and thank you to all those who played or supported the event.
Darren.

Darren Griffiths of Glyn Abbey Golf Club was named Golf Development Wales (GDW) Professional of the Year as an excellent example of a PGA professional who understands the benefits of doing fundamental work at grass roots level.
He mixes his commitments at beginner level with elite individual coaching making him a true asset to Welsh golf. His accomplishments include: mentoring a PGA Level 2 volunteer coach to help recruit and coach new juniors; running two 5x60 beginner clubs with that PGA Level 2 volunteer; coaching the Welsh Special Olympics golf squad; running a Dragon Golf Starter Centre; helping GDW to pilot the new golf resources for Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum; acting as a consultant on the GDW Guide to Clubs on Junior Golf CD-ROM; and being one of the GUW / PGA nominated coaches for the ground-breaking PGA Level 4 qualification.
First Minister, Rhodri Morgan, who was present at the annual awards dinner, said: “I would like to congratulate all four winners on their achievements at these awards and in realising that quality is key to success. The eyes of the world will be on Wales in 2010 and a huge amount of work is being done to ensure that not only The Celtic Manor Resort, but Wales as a whole, is ready to host this great sporting contest.”
